OK, what’s the status on holograms? Are we there yet?

I have this dream… The dream is me in my home, maybe on a rainy day… maybe on an uninspired day… definitely on a day I need to hear and see live music. I place some sort of disc into some sort of machine… then grab a cold drink and a seat on my couch. Directly in front of me appears a band, a real life-sized 3 dimensional projection of a band. They play an entire live set for me in my living room! I am free to walk around them, rock with them, or even rock inside them!

Don’t you think it’d be the greatest invention? You could have your favorite band play at your party! You could have an intimate evening alone with your favorite band! Etc. Etc…

It seems completely doable. I mean, it’s 2010 damnit! So whoever is leading the charge in hologram developments please get on that and let me know immediately when I can experience a digitized live show in my home.
